For many blogging was once considered to be a personal diary or a student’s project that they used to write something informative and worth reading from time to time and for others it was a way to make money from adsense with little 2-5 page sniper sites. Today, the online world has evolved and now a blog is considered to be one of the most integral and powerful tool for any business.
Blogs/blogging not only allows you to set your level of expertise among your niche but also allows you to get more traffic and leads for your business. All you have to do is to write something creative, valuable and market in such a way that it attracts more audience. I know easier said than done.
There are tons of businesses in the blogsphere and many of them are updating their blog almost every day. But not all blogs are created equal. Its not easy to be as powerful as Mashable, Moz.com or Smashing Magazine, having said that it is clear that these blogs have been using tactics to get better traffic and more exposure within the niche which many of you may or may not be aware of.
Even if you know these tactics maybe you just take them for granted or just are using them effectively. I hear so often from other bloggers that they just don’t have time. Well blogging is hard work and getting traffic requires effort, creativity and a lot of hard work.
Here are some of the basic hacks that you can use for your blog to get more targeted traffic and leads for your business. Most of the hacks I am going to discuss are used by big fishes in blogging niche but are fairly easy and simple.
Guest Blog Posts
Usually people use this for link building but I believe guest blogging is one of the powerful tools for generating traffic for your blog. The idea is simple, you have to outreach to other powerful blogs within your niche and request them to write on your blog as a guest writer.
Guest Blogging is tricky and should be used carefully so that it does not look like you are using it just for linkbuilding. You should be creative and make sure that you change up your author box (people can easily do a Google search and see all of your guest posts). The key would be to write on the same blog for multiple times or a series of post so you that you can start to see a good amount of traffic transfer to your blog.
There are few things you should check before outreaching to blogger for a guest blogging opportunity which are:
• Quality of blog
• Relevancy of blog
• Blog’s interaction
• Social power of the blog.
SEO-Search Engine Optimization
The problem with most bloggers is that they focus on writing innovative and compiling content but forget almost everything that comes under the umbrella of SEO including titles, tags, description, use of keywords in the content, optimized URL, internal linking and more.
If you are looking to increase traffic of your blog, you probably should seriously focus at least a little on SEO and make sure that each of your post is properly optimized for search engines. This will help you get better visibility in search engines and rankings for many of your desired key phrases which will help you drive targeted traffic to your blog. Remember you want to always write for your readers but help the search engines out as well.
Active Comment Interaction
Most bloggers neglect the importance of interaction and replying to the comments both on their site and others. This is one of the many reasons for people to leave your blog. In order to increase traffic to your blog, active comment interaction is necessary; even if you are receiving aggressive or negative comments…it is advisable to answer promptly and with a positive energy. It will help you build audience around your brand that can help you bring more people to your blog.
People usually find a lot of new sites to visit from other popular blogs. When they see your comments and they add value to the conversation they want to see what you have to offer as well. This can be a great way to pick up on traffic from some of the other high traffic site out there and use their traffic to your advantage.
Social sharing is one of the most powerful ways to increase traffic to blog and cater as many eyeballs as possible. The idea is to have social sharing buttons like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+ and more on your blog post.
When a user reads your post, these buttons will encourage them to share the post with their circles and if your post contains value, chances are you will be able to get more shares and traffic to your blog. The thing is that you want to always see if you can have some of your peers share and tweet your posts. Remember no one likes being the first. Sometimes you have to plant a seed so that people see that others are already sharing your content so that they want to share it also.
You will find that usually once a post as a few shares it is easy for that post to keep getting more and more shares. The more people sharing it in social media the more chances people will visit your site and boost your traffic. Check out how Robert tripled his traffic from Twitter.
Community Sharing and Networking
There are multiple communities available online where you can share your stuff with the like minded people. They will review and vote up or down your post accordingly.
In my personal opinion Reddit is one of the powerful communities where you can share your post easily. There are other communities which are specific to niches like Y-Contributor for start-ups, Inbound.org for internet marketers, Yakezie for personal finance bloggers and more.
Information in the form of graphics is popularly known as infographics. Infographic is one of the powerful ways to drive traffic to the website as they are viral in nature and can easily attract eyeballs to the blog.
Try adding infographics to your blog and re-share it on infographics websites like visual.ly, infographics.com and more.
Similar to Infographics, videos can become viral and have the ability to capture a lot of people. Getting traffic from videos require a lot of work and planning. There is a lot of marketing going on behind the scenes that a lot of people never see. The idea is to create a video and launch it on your blog plus other video sharing websites like Youtube, Vimeo, Vevo, Daily motion and more.
Videos will not only allow you to drive traffic to your website but also encourage you to drive traffic to the website which again can bring more eye balls to your blog.
There are a ton of ways to drive traffic to your site, however the key is finding 2-3 that you can become really good at and making those work. You have limited time and need to focus on things to make sure you are getting the most out of your time. You can jump from one thing to the next all the time. You want to have a mix but you also do want to spread yourself too thin either.
